TEEN COUNSELOR PROGRAM INFORMATION
We are pleased to announce
that OSU Extension 4-H will be sponsoring our annual 4-H Junior
Wildlife Stewards camp for youth in grades 3-8. We are now recruiting
high school youth with an interest in the outdoors and natural sciences
and who enjoy working with youth to serve as Camp Counselors. The camp
will be held at the 4-H Education Center in northwest Salem. We hope you will take the time to review this packet and
consider submitting your application for a camp counselor position.
Serving as a 4-H camp counselor
is an excellent leadership opportunity and lots of fun. The OSU Extension
4-H faculty and adult leader staff will provide Training and support
for the 4-H camp counselors. In partnership with the adult volunteer
staff you will also have the opportunity to help us develop our 4-H
Junior Wildlife Stewards Camp.

4-H Teen leaders are a very
important part of the camp staffing plan. 4-H Teen Camp Counselors are
both givers and receivers of 4-H camp educational programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Sets a good example according
to camp objectives
- Be a good, enthusiastic
camper
- Be responsible for 5-6
campers
- Be punctual and attend
all camp programs
- Associate with campers
instead of other counselors
- Accept responsibility
for enforcing all camp rules
- Never leave camp without
permission from the Camp Director
- Abide by all rules, policies,
and procedures
- Assume full responsibility
of the safety of the campers
- Assume responsibility
for the behavior of the campers in the cabins
- Sit at the head of the
table at mealtime and assist with the orderly
use of the dining hall
- See that all campers participate
in the daily fulfillment of cabin clean-up
- Facilitate campers personal
hygiene, practices, and make sure campers are properly dressed for
different activities
- Seek adult staff help
with difficult campers
- In partnership with other
teen counselors and adult counselor liaison, plan and organize the
"Evening All-Camp" programs
- Assist assigned camper
group (5-6 campers) for campfire program which include skits, camp
songs and other special presentations
- Prepare nametags for each
camper in assigned camper group
- In cooperation with other
teen camp counselors decorate cabins using a wildlife theme and assist
with camp clean up.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have completed 9th
grade by June 2010
- Enjoy working with children
- Willing to participate
in counselor training sessions
- Love of the outdoors and
a willingness and enthusiasm for sharing it with children

- Application Deadline -
March 1, 2010 for new applicants and May 1, 2010 for returning Counselors
- New Camp Staff Trainings - new counselor applicants must attend 2 out of the 4 trainings
(all trainings are held from 3:30-5:30 pm at the Park Lane Bowling Alley Meeting room in Aloha, Oregon)

HOW TO APPLY :
New Counselor applicants must submit the their teen staff enrollment and counselor application by March 1st to indicate their interest in returning to camp.
New Camp Counselor staff will
be selected based on the final criteria
- Teen Staff
Health Card and Code of Conduct, counselor application and references
- Participation in the weekend new camp staff weekend
- Interview with Camp Counselor
selection committee (Individual interviews will be set up and conducted
with each counselor applicant )
- participation in the camp staff trainings

New counselor applicants are required to attend the new camp staff retreat in May15-16. There is no cost for this weekend. During the weekend, counselor applicants will participate in various leadership opportunities and training sessions. Counselor applicant interviews will also be conducted for all new applicants.
Please Note: There is no guarantee that all counselors applicants will be selected for camp staff. Adult camp staff will select counselors for 2010 camp after the May retreat. If you have any
