LEVEL TWO: Two Years
CREATE
YOUR WILDLIFE HABITAT SITE (50 points)
- Using the 4-H Wildlife
Stewards checklist for creating a sustainable site that incorporates
water conditions, soil conditions and exposure, students create and
plant a wildlife habitat for bird, butterflies, and/or other wildlife
and include wildlife enhancements such as birdhouses, feeders, water
features (30 points)
- Students update site map
with map overlays that include added plants and enhancements (10 points)
- Place a 4-H Wildlife Stewards
Member School signage in your habitat (10 points)*
PLANNING
(55 points)
- Secure tools and supplies
for your project (10 points)*
- Establish a Summer Maintenance
and/or watering program for your project (10 points)*
- Establish a Resource Library
for students, teachers, and 4-H Wildlife Stewards ( 5 points)
- Establish a Vandalism
Prevention Program for your project (5 points)
- Submit a small grant application
($100 or more) to secure a donation of funds from a business or organization
(10 points)
Certify your habitat with OSU Extension 4-H (10 points)
MAINTAIN
THE 4-H WILDLIFE STEWARDS HABITAT TEAM (35 points)
- Recruit additional parents
and teachers to participate in the project (5 points)
- Identify and recruit community
or neighborhood partners (10 points)
- Create a permanent 4-H
Wildlife Stewards bulletin board display and/or web site for keeping
parents, students, and faculty updated on the project (10 points)
- Publish a newsletter or
school newspaper column to keep everyone updated on the project (10
points)
RECORD
KEEPING (40 points)
- Submit the annual 4-H
Wildlife Stewards In-School Enrollment and Volunteer Hours Record
(10 points)*
- Maintain and update the
project journal for the benefit of the school and community (10 points)
- Take "during"
pictures of your habitat site (10 points)
- Student team(s) prepare
and submit an exhibit for the 4-H County Fair (5 points)
- Complete a 4-H Wildlife
Stewards Level Two Advancement Program Application (5 points)*
CELEBRATE
YOUR SUCCESS (25 points)
- Students share their successes
with teachers, students and parents at assemblies and school events
and invite 4-H Wildlife Stewards staff to present the Level Two certification
award (15 points)
- Publicize the success
of your project through the media, the school newspaper or school
website (10 points)
