SCHOOL ADVANCEMENT PROGRAM

LEVEL THREE: SHARING AND INVOLVING STAGE

A 4-H Wildlife Stewards Member School must earn AT LEAST 200 points out of a possible 235 Requirements with a "*" indicate that this is a mandatory requirement.

EXPECTED TIME TO COMPLETE LEVEL THREE: Two Years

PLANNING AND SHARING (65 points)

  • Students update the site plan map with overlays (5 points)
    Establish a wildlife monitoring program and collect data on wildlife activity (15 points)
  • Students share the project with the community through habitat tours, hosting classes or activities on the site, and/or inviting special guests such as school board members, county commissioners or the mayor for a visit (15 points)
  • Establish a volunteer management plan for parent and community volunteers (15 points)
  • Students provide assistance, host a tour, and/or give a presentation to a Level One or Level Two School (15 points)

ENHANCE THE SITE (15 points)

  • Improve the Wildlife Habitat Site by creating additional habitat, composting food waste from the school cafeteria, implementing a wetlands or streamside restoration project, creating a schoolyard arboretum and/or establishing a school native plant nursery (15 points)

4-H WILDLIFE STEWARDS HABITAT TEAM (80 points)

  • At least 75% of the student body is involved in the project (15 points)
  • Recruit additional parents or teachers to complete the 4-H Wildlife Stewards Training Course (15 points each)
  • Host a 4-H and/or National Wildlife Federation Curriculum Training for teachers and volunteers (10 points)
  • At least one class of students study in-depth a specific subject or topic related to the project for two years (10 points)
  • 4-H Wildlife Stewards complete at least 3 hours of Advanced 4-H Wildlife Stewards Training (10 points)
  • Establish a cross-age mentoring program (older students mentor or teach younger students) (10 points)
  • Students participate in a 4-H Junior Wildlife Stewards Exchange with another 4-H Wildlife Stewards School (10 points)

RECORD KEEPING (45 points)

  • Submit the annual 4-H Wildlife Stewards In-School Enrollment (5 points)*
  • 4-H Wildlife Stewards submit records of their volunteer hours to the 4-H Office (5 points)*
  • Students keep individual record books or journals of their involvement in the project (10 points)
  • Complete a 4-H Wildlife Stewards Level Three Advancement Program Application (5 points)*
  • Student Teams submit exhibits at the 4-H County Fair (10 points)
  • Establish a 4-H Wildlife Stewards School website or newsletter for your project (10 points)

CELEBRATE SUCCESS (10 points)

  • Invite 4-H Wildlife Stewards staff to a special ceremony to celebrate certification of Level Three and to present to students and staff the expectations for LEVEL FOUR (10 points)*

MAINTAIN FUNDING (20 points)

  • Secure long-range funding for your project through corporate partnerships, PTA commitments, grants or other sources (20 points)
