SCHOOL ADVANCEMENT PROGRAM

LEVEL FOUR: CIVIC ACTION STAGE

A 4-H Wildlife Stewards Member School must earn AT LEAST 160 points out of a possible 205. Requirements with a "*" indicate that this is a mandatory requirement.

EXPECTED TIME TO COMPLETE LEVEL FIVE: Two years

PLANNING AND SHARING (80 points)

  • Students update the site plan map with overlays (5 points)
  • Students analyze wildlife monitoring date and create reports, displays and graphs for educating others (15 points)
  • Students submit a written article about their project to their media (10 points)
  • Students prepare and deliver an oral presentation of what they learned with groups and organizations outside the school (15 points)
  • Students share what they learned from their project and recommended courses of action to elected officials (15 points)
  • Students serve on community committees or boards that address community environment issues such as watershed councils (10 points)
  • Students provide assistance and/or training to a Level One, Two or Three 4-H Wildlife Stewards Member School (10 points)

MAINTAIN THE SITE (20 points)

  • Maintain the Wildlife Habitat Site (10 points)
  • Teachers continue to use the habitat site as an outdoor learning laboratory (10 points)

4-H WILDLIFE STEWARDS HABITAT TEAM (45 points)

  • A Wildlife Habitat Annual Native Plant sale is established to provide maintenance funds for the project (15 points)
  • At the high school level at least 50% of the habitat team is comprised of students, 25% of middle school students comprise the habitat team and 10% of elementary school students comprise the habitat team (15 points)
  • Recruit additional parents or teachers to complete the 4-H Wildlife Stewards Training Course (15 points)

RECORD KEEPING (35 points)

  • Submit the annual 4-H Wildlife Stewards In-school Enrollment (5 points)*
  • 4-H Wildlife Stewards submit a record of their volunteer hours to the 4-H Wildlife Stewards Office (5 points)*
  • Students maintain individual record books or journals of their involvement in the project (10 points)
  • Complete a 4-H Wildlife Stewards Level Four Advancement Program Application (5 points)*
  • Student Teams submit exhibits at the 4-H State Fairs (10 points)

CELEBRATE SUCCESS (30 points)

  • Invite 4-H Wildlife Stewards staff to a special ceremony to celebrate certification of Level Four (10 points)*
  • Work with 4-H Wildlife Stewards staff to secure a feature article of your project in the local media (10 points)
  • Maintain the school 4-H Wildlife Stewards website and/or newspaper (10 points)
