BIOSWALES

A bioswale is a large area where runoff collects. They may not be very pretty but they have large diversity of species during the wet season. Usually they dry out during warmer months. But during winter months muddy areas are temporary wetlands. Many different insects use bioswales as breeding habitats thus attracting birds and other animals that feed on the insects and larva. They can be used to show how nature can be found in many places, even muddy areas. The kids can collect samples and see what they can find such as larva and plants species. Plus it gives kids an excuse to get dirty so they love it.
