WOODLAND GARDENS To have a healthy woodland you need to either have established trees or room to plant your own. This project takes longer to develop if there are not already established trees. One of the key aspects of a healthy woodland is diversity. Whether in tree species or ages there need to be more than one type of habitat to attract a variety of animal species. Some of the different types of woodlands include: meadow, young forest, mature forest, and riparian forestlands. These woodlands can be valuable teaching tools because of the large range of species plus it can help teach urban kids the importance of forest. Many aspects of a healthy forest habitat are not the live trees. Snags, nurse logs and tree litter can add a lot to the habitat of woodland. Nurse logs can be used for vital shelter for many different species. Snags also serve this purpose. By having woodlands you can provide a valuable teaching tool. SAMPLE PROJECTS:
