WORM COMPOSTING

Worm composting makes use of the school food scraps and helps to educate students about recycling. In the classroom and lunchroom you can have a food scrap box where kids can throw old banana peels or other food scraps. Be sure this container is airtight and is changed regularly so that the smell doesn’t distract from the learning environment. Worm boxes are large composting bins that are home to many worms. These bins also contain some soil for the worms to move around in. The food scraps are added to these boxes along with some shredded paper. Then just wait and let the worms do their job. Once the worms are through you have nutrient rich soil to add to your garden. This is a great way to cut back on garbage and make healthy soil.
