What is Welcome the Rain?

sponsored by East Multnomah Soil and Water Conservaton

Welcome the Rain! is a fall event that celebrates our rainy season as well as a family friendly "solutions fair" showing ways to solve some of the challenges stormwater brings to the urban environment. It is geared to address to the public's growing desire for more information on the topics of downspout disconnection, green streets, and urban stormwater issues. This year it will be held at Sunnyside Environmental School 3421 SE Salmon St, Portland, OR 97214.

There will be a mix of informational booths and non-profits, rain garden and ecoroof specific plants for sale, and companies offering various stormwater/rain harvesting products or services. Free workshops about downspout disconnection, rain gardens, bike commuting in the rain, porous pavement, rain harvesting, and many other topics will be running throughout the day for the adults. Art and science activities as well as a story teller will be on site for the kids.

The rain sculpture contest currently seeking entries - deadline is July 25th. Entries will be prominently displayed outside to be judged by a panel as well as event attendees for a chance to win one of three cash prizes.   For more information visit the website at:  www.welcometherain.org.
