Teacher Network Grants

Teachers Network is excited to announce $500 grants for public school teachers for technology-based curriculum units.

National Gardening Grants (National Gardening Association)

The National Gardening Association and the Home Depot will award Youth Garden Grants to schools and community organizations with child-centered, outdoor garden programs. 150 programs will receive Home Depot gift cards for the purchase of gardening materials and supplies particular to the needs of their program, and an activity package from NGA. Fifty first place winners will receive $500 gift cards; 100 second place winners will receive $250 gift cards. Schools, youth groups, community centers, camps, clubs, treatment facilities, and intergenerational groups throughout the United States are eligible to apply. Applicants who want to participate must show that children/youth learning and working in outdoor gardens. Areas included are educational, environmental, or social programming; leadership; community support; sustainability; innovation; and need. Application deadline: November 1, 2008.

Diack Ecology Education Program

Ongoing applications

The Diack Family Oregon Ecology Education Program provides a system of grants, awards, and resources that are distributed to teachers and other youth leaders in Oregon to encourage them to involve youth in field based ecology. Funds are awarded to assist "hands-on" programs that involve Oregon children, K-12 with field-based studies especially connected to community interest or goals. Grants are $1,500 and under. There are no funding deadlines.

National Youth Service Day

Grants and awards support and motivate youth, teachers, service-learning coordinators, and youth-serving organizations to plan and implement projects for National Youth Service Day and on-going service throughout the year. Youth Service America thanks our sponsors who support and underwrite the following grants and awards to increase the quality and quantity of service and service-learning. National & Global Youth Service Day 2008 is April 25 - 27.

Captain Planet Foundation

The Captain Planet Foundation reserves the right to earmark funding for specific t budgetary items, and decline funding for budgetary items which are not consistent with Grant Guidelines. Generally, the range of grants awarded by the Foundation is $250 - $2,500. Deadlines for submitting grant applications are March 31, June 30, September 30, and December 31.

National Tree Trust

National Tree Trust has the Planting American's future Awards to honor achievements in volunteerism and community forestry. Grants must be tree-related projects up to $25,000. Deadline May 31, of each year.

Meyer Memorial

The late Fred G. Meyer set up this trust. Supports projects related to arts and humanities, education, health, social welfare, and variety of other activities. No limitations for the size or duration of this grant but up to $1,500 per teacher. For Teachers Initiative Program Feb 1st deadline date.

Habitat Protection Grants

The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation provides funding on a competitive basis to projects that sustain, restore and enhance the Nation's fish, wildlife, plants and their habitats through our Keystone Initiative Grants and other Special Grant Programs.

Teacher Development Grants

The National Education Association Learning and leadership grants support individuals participating in professional-development activities, such as summer institutes, or groups of teachers and education-support professionals conducting research, mentoring, or other relevant activities. Individuals may apply for grants of up to $2,000 and groups may apply for up to $5,000. Innovation grants of up to $5,000 support collaborative efforts by two or more colleagues to develop and implement programs that encourage high student achievement.

GameStop youth grants are available for anyone in the U.S. or Canada, 25 or under, who has a great idea for a community action project. We could fund your bright idea! Urban Forestry

The National Urban and Community Forestry Advisory Council (Council) serves to advise the Secretary of Agriculture on the status of the nation's urban and community forests. The Council seeks to establish sustainable urban and community forests by encouraging communities of all sizes to manage and protect their natural resources for this and future generations. Through its competitive Challenge Cost-Share Grant Program, funded by the USDA Forest Service's Urban and Community Forestry Program, the Council only supports urban and community forestry projects that have national, or widespread, significance in their impact or application.

Character Education

Now in its 9th year, NSOC is an annual awards program recognizing K-12 schools and districts demonstrating outstanding character education initiatives that yield positive results in student behavior, school climate and academic performance. Selected schools and districts receive a cash award of $2,000, national recognition, and are featured in CEP's annual NSOC book/CD and on CEP's Web site.

Teacher Awards

Since 1989, Disney Teacher Awards have been presented to teachers in the United States who construct learning environments where students and teachers alike explore, imagine, and engage in a variety of stimulating ideas and experiences. Honorees will receive $10,000, a $5,000 grant for their school, and a six-day professional development institute with their principal at the Walt Disney World Resort. Environmental Restoration www.fundwildnature.org The Fund for Wild Nature provides money for campaigns to save and restore native species and wild ecosystems, including actions to defend wilderness and biological diversity. We fund advocacy, litigation, public policy work, development of citizen science, and similar endeavors.

4-H Afterschool New Grant Opportunity

Charles A. and Anne Morrow Lindbergh Foundation

Each year, The Charles A. and Anne Morrow Lindbergh Foundation provides grants of up to $10,580 (a symbolic amount representing the cost of the Spirit of St. Louis) to men and women whose individual initiative and work in a wide spectrum of disciplines furthers the Lindberghs' vision of a balance between the advance of technology and the preservation of the natural/human environment.


Hidden Valley Love Your Veggies Grants

Hidden Valley has announced a “Love your Veggies” funding campaign for elementary schools around the country. This year's grant funds will be used toward the implementation of a creative and sustainable vegetable consumption program, fresh produce, program staffing, nutrition education supplies, and a training course for school personnel given by School Nutrition Association representatives on how to create a healthy and nutritious school environment. National Geographic Young Explorers Grants

The National Geographic Society's Young Explorers Grants are for 18-25 year-olds to pursue research, exploration, and conservation-related projects consistent with National Geographic's existing grant programs. The Committee for Research and Exploration funds hypothesis-based scientific research; the Conservation Trust funds innovative and applied approaches to conservation with potential for global application; and the Expeditions Council funds exploration and adventure around the world. Funding is not restricted to U.S. citizens—foreign nationals are invited to apply. Grant applications are accepted throughout the year; apply at least 6-8 months prior to the start of the project.


American Honda Foundation Grants

The American Honda Foundation makes grants to K–12 schools, colleges, universities, trade schools, and others for programs that benefit youth and scientific education, and programs pertaining to academic or curriculum development that emphasize innovative educational methods and techniques. The foundation seeks programs that are scientific, creative, humanistic, innovative, and more. Grants are awarded on a quarterly basis, with deadlines of November1, February 1, May 1, and August 1 each year.

Project Learning Tree® (PLT) Neighborhood Improvement Grants

Project Learning Tree® (PLT), the environmental education program of the American Forest Foundation, has awarded 26 GreenWorks! grants to PLT schools across the country for community-based environmental projects. GreenWorks! is PLT's service-learning program that engages PLT educators and their students with their local community in "learning-by-doing"
neighborhood improvement projects. Elementary through college-age students in 20 different states will design native plant gardens, restore streams and riparian habitat, construct hiking trails, start composting projects, and investigate alternative sources of energy. PLT is now accepting applications for the Fall 2007 grants. Proposals are due on October 31, 2008. Grants up to $5,000 are available. Since 1992, Project Learning Tree has distributed approximately $415,000 to fund over 725 grant projects in communities across the country. This year, $100,000 will be awarded in two funding cycles.


Celebrate Oregon Arbor Week!
$50 Tree Planting Grants Now Available for Oregon Teachers

Oregon's annual Arbor Week is the first full week in April.
In 2008, Oregon Arbor Week is April 6-12.

To kick off Oregon's annual Arbor Week celebrations and to support community tree planting with Oregon school children in the month of April, the Oregon Association of Nurseries, Oregon Department of Forestry in cooperation with USDA Forest Service, Oregon Community Trees and the World Forestry Center have teamed up for the first time to offer $50 grants for Oregon teachers to purchase and plant trees on their school grounds and in local communities.

• Teachers of all grades in Oregon are eligible to apply.
• The $50 grant is to purchase tree(s) from a local nursery or garden center.
• The grant may be used to leverage other donations for the project, but must apply only and directly toward purchase of tree(s).
• All projects must involve students in the planning (selecting site, choosing type of trees) and planting the trees.
• Trees must be planted on school grounds or nearby site with public access.
• All trees must be successfully planted by April 30, 2008.
• To receive payment, teachers must submit a copy of receipt for purchase of tree(s) and a digital photograph of the planted tree with students.
• Only one grant will be awarded per school.

Pay it Forward Minigrants ~ Deadline: April 15

Pay it Forward Foundation offers minigrants (up to $500) to fund service-oriented projects designed by youth to support their school, neighborhood, or greater community. Projects must contain a “pay it forward” focus – that is, they must be based on the concept of one person doing a favor for others, who in turn do favors for others, with the results growing exponentially – to be considered in the grant making process.
