4-H Wildlife Stewards On-Line Course

DESCRIPTION

This distance delivered course is designed for parents of K-8 students, teachers, and other community volunteers committed to bringing science and nature together one school at a time. 4-H Wildlife Stewards assist students and teachers create, use, and sustain Habitat Education Sites on school grounds for science learning. The 4-H Wildlife Stewards distance delivered course is designed to provide participants with the information, resources and knowledge to work effectively with students, teachers and community partners to build strong community based education programs.


COURSE

OBJECTIVES

 

   On successful completion of this   course students will:

  • develop knowledge, skills, and understanding on how to work with students and teachers to create, use, and sustain wildlife Habitat Education Sites on school grounds for science learning; and
  • understand the 4-H Wildlife Stewards program, expectations, and support.
 
TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS

   Student should have access to:

  • Fast speed Computer with at least 56k modem
  • Internet accessInternet Explorer web browser version 6.0 or higher.
  • Word processing software (Word, WordPerfect, etc.)
  • Power Point reader (instructions provided for free download)
  • Printer
  • Email capability

 

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

Time: 2--4 hours per week, plus final paper if taking for credit

Curriculum: 4-H Wildlife Stewards Project Handbook and 4-H Wildlife Stewards Project Certification Handbook

All assignments must be completed in the time specified. A certificate of completion will be supplied to all students after satisfactory completion of all work. See requirements for grading if taking class for credit.

Assignments: Students must review the assignments for each unit. All assignments will be posted before the first day of the course, but may be subject to change. All changes will be posted on the discussion board forum.

Participation: All students must participate in all on line discussions unless other arrangements are made with the facilitator.

CREDIT REQUIREMENTS: This will be achieved through reading assignments, reviewing videos, online discussions, and weekly project assignments.

A. Complete a 4-H Volunteer Service Application and the 4-H volunteer screening process with county 4-H Extension office.

B. Participate in all discussion forum exchanges.

C. Fully participate in online activities.

D. Complete all offline activities.

E.. Submit final 1-page reflective paper (if taking for credit)
